Carla Hollak

Carla Hollak, internist for inborn errors of metabolism, at Amsterdam University Medical Centers, is professor of “Medicines and Society”. Carla set up the adult inherited metabolic diseases service at the AMC over the past 20 years and was at the basis of the expertise center for lysosomal storage disorders recognized by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. She initiated the platform “Medicijn voor de Maatschappij”(www.medicijnvoordemaatschappij.nl), founded in 2019. This initiative has now grown nationally into the RARE-NL (rare-nl.nl) foundation to improve access to medicines for patients with rare diseases and to stimulate academy-driven drug development and drug repurposing. She is, among other things, a member of the Advisory Committee of the Insured Package of the Healthcare Institute and is involved in various initiatives in the field of drug development and rational use.
